Unicorn Equity Analysts – What We Don’t Do
UAE is not a seller or broker of securities, does not make recommendations to buy, sell, go long, go short, put, call or shut up. We do not pretend to know what is good for a specific investor and, frankly, don’t care to know. Some days, we don’t even know if our shoes are tied.
We are not prognosticators, fortune tellers, seers or predictors. We have no crystal balls, magic wands, flying broomsticks or special talent for seeing into the future. We do not even try to predict booms, busts, the direction of the S&P or next years winner on American Idol.
We do not work for any investment houses, brokerages, financial advisors or similar creatures. We do not earn any revenue from anyone in or related to the finance industry and do not recommend any brokers, brokerage houses, financial advisor or any one else that makes money off your investments. We hope that most subscribers will utilize one of the several low-cost, on-line services to buy and sell stocks but don’t see it as our business to recommend one or to be concerned either way.
We don’t make up numbers or make numbers say something they don’t say. We don’t fudge, fictionalize or fake what the data says or spin what a company is doing. When a subscriber asks for a valuation, we don’t try to persuade, coax or urge them to buy or not buy, sell or not sell. We analyze and present as much clear, concise information as we can and let the individual retail investor decide on their best choice.
We don’t sit in front of the TV all day watching talking heads discuss the latest hot tip, concern ourselves over the daily gyrations of the market or expect to “make a killing” in the market. We’re not ego driven (well, maybe a little) or obsessed with the latest news. We don’t day-trade (but we have) and are not speculators (which we’ve done) expecting to turn a huge profit every time we buy or sell a stock (which we rarely did).
We don’t take any revenue from companies being valued or have any relationship with them. We don’t do lunch, go golfing, attend ballgames or otherwise socialize with executive leaders of publicly held companies – in general, we don’t much like those folks, anyway, and doubt seriously they’d like us, either. We don’t have a vested interest in the success or failure of any publicly held company and we don’t hide our opinions of them when they succeed or fail.
We don’t hide our own investments from our subscribers. UEA analysts are prohibited from contributing to a valuation report if they hold shares in the company being reviewed or, when such is not possible, are required to make full disclosure of their interests and how long they’ve held that interest. We do not permit any analyst to issue a report that has not been fully screened by UEA executives or issue an analysis over an individual name; reports are only issued by “Unicorn”.
We don’t think investing is work – we think it is fun. We don’t think that we’re God’s gift to investment analysis or the larger world in general; we don’t take ourselves too seriously or, in fact, at all seriously. UAE founders (collegially known as “Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion”) believe anything that isn’t fun isn’t worth doing.
Our goal is to help individual retail investors with honest, objective information.
