How It Works

UEA founders and subscribers are active, interested people paying close attention to the world around them. Each subscriber has the opportunity to request from UEA a valuation, up to four per year, of any publicly held company they see operating – preferably smaller, local firms flying under the radar of Wall Street. Within two weeks after requesting analysis of a firm, that subscriber receives a complete, detailed report focusing on the financial condition of the company including a review of management, sector and industry performance within the overall national and global economy.

Having received our valuation, the subscriber has thirty days to act on the information before we whisper a word to anyone (not even ourselves!). During that month, the requestor has exclusive knowledge of the report and conclusions to use in developing any investment decisions she or he may like with a guarantee that no one at UEA will use that information or convey it to anyone else to use.

After thirty days, our monthly newsletter, “Tip of the Unicorn”, provides a thumbnail sketch of the request and the results. Subscribers wishing to see the full report can access it online to assist making investment decisions or can, by their leave, choose to ignore it completely. Our experience has been (as Mr. Lynch suggested it would be) that many investors are missing the best of the best opportunities existing on Main Street America because they don’t happen to live on the right Main Street in the right town at the right time.

New subscribers are entitled to review the archive history of the previous 12 months – to see what companies were being discussed and what the valuation was. They are free, as well, to make investment decisions based on that information (a year old valuation?) if they choose. They can look through prior month articles for ideas and (maybe) find that UEA authors hit some pretty good nails on the head.

Our goal is to bring good, long term investment opportunities to retail investors before Wall Street ever sees them. The collective wisdom of American investors often finds gems, darlings and stars before they get covered in the Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily or by any of the other “important media” and exactly to the degree our humble newsletter can bring a subscriber the news of the next Starbucks, Krispy Kreme or Whozitnext before Wall Street finds them, we are successful.

UEA subscribers are real people – receptionists, doctors, assembly line workers and managers; there’s even a lawyer or two in the bunch. They share in life only the common characteristic of being thoughtful, prudent investors seeking a piece of the wealth generated by American capitalism. With each edition of “Tip of the Unicorn”, they find businesses not seen in their town, ideas they hadn’t considered, and an article written by the UEA founders on some hot topic of the month – often an editorial on Wall Street abuses but occasionally an insightful view on our economy, our world or life in general. They are “connected”, not to the hotshots and talking heads, but to all the eyes and ears looking and listening for opportunity in every state.

UEA subscribers also can access our book reviews – a library of several hundred volumes uniquely useful to independent investors – and can request a review of a new (or old) title about which they’re curious. UEA read voluminously – nothing makes our wives and husbands madder than our using the summer to read books about investing!

Finally, UEA subscribers and authors can have fun. We like being poked at by our subscribers and REALLY like poking fun at Wall Street, Washington, most politicians and a variety of folk who take themselves way too seriously. We believe making money is important; we know having fun is.
